The City Council will be considering on first reading on May 3, 2016, an ordinance to allow retail marijuana stores in the city. Most of the laws pertaining to medical and retail marijuana sales are established by the state legislature, however, cities are allowed to regulate things such as location and number of stores permitted to operate within a city. Among other requirements, to obtain medical marijuana a patient must be 18 years of age, obtain a doctor's approval and approval from the State of Colorado. Retail marijuana sales are available to anyone 21 years of age and older.
Currently, Littleton allows a maximum of four medical marijuana stores to operate and prohibits retail operations.
